Foundations are probably my favorite beauty product so I thought what better topic for my first EB Elite Artistry blog post than just that. I love trying new ones, drugstore and high-end and I love the even canvas they create to add on concealer, contour, highlight, and blush. I have normal-to-oily skin but I do not tend to love super matte foundations. I tend to gravitate to more natural finish foundations. For reference I am around a NW20/NC25 in MAC foundations and light beige in Tarte foundations.
My long time favorite foundation was the Make Up For Ever Face and Body foundation. Unfortunately, this foundation was discontinued last year and was replaced with the Water Blend Face and Body Foundation. While I don’t find the newer formula to be as good as the original I still do find myself reaching for this foundation on a regular basis. I love this foundation for days when you know you will be taking pictures, want a light feeling foundation, or don’t need a ton of coverage. This foundation looks beautiful in photos. Whenever I see a picture of myself and think my skin looks great it’s almost always when I had been wearing this foundation. It’s not a high coverage/buildable foundation, but I find that it evens my skin tone and I can go in with concealer on the areas that I need more coverage (spot concealing and under the eyes- I will talk about my faves in my next post). One downside to this foundation is that it is not the longest wearing product (typically 6-8 hours on me), which may not be a great option for a full work day or a long night out. I am in shade R-250- beige nude. This product is sold at Sephora, $43.00 USD. Make Up For Ever HD is another one of my favorite foundations. It is another liquid foundation that comes in a variety of shades. This foundation looks beautiful on the skin and has more coverage than the water foundation. I find that this foundation is buildable and I tend to use two pumps for my entire face. This foundation lasts around 10 hours on my skin in the colder months- probably around 8 hours in the summer when my skin is a little oilier. This foundation makes it through my workdays still looking great on the skin with just a couple blots throughout the day. I don’t find that this cakes or separates when I blot/powder throughout the day. This foundation also looks great in photos and on camera- hence HD in the name. I am in shade Y225- Marble. This product is sold at Sephora, $43.00 USD. For a drugstore option I have been loving Maybelline Matte & Poreless foundation for the past few months. This product is around $10 at the drugstore and is a great alternative to high-end foundations that can be pricey- especially if worn on an everyday basis. This foundation is full coverage, leans towards a more matte finish (but not matte to the point where you look lifeless), and stays on the skin all day. I can wear this to work for a 10-12 hour shift and it still looks great on the skin at the end of the day. This foundation also looks great in photos but I would recommend the other two over this one if you know you will be taking a ton of photos. This product is sold at all drugstores/Ulta, typically between $8-12 USD depending on the store. I always set all three of these foundations with either a translucent powder or a light powder foundation (I will talk about my faves in an upcoming post), as well as a setting spray (also coming in a blog post).
