Katy and Dustin’s July Wedding
Katy’s wedding was a little unique compared to other weddings in 2016. Jamie, Katy’s Maid of Honor hired us to do the hair and makeup. Jamie has been a long time friend and client of Jenny and myself. She treated Katy to a special morning of hair and makeup at Mockingbird Heights A Salon.
Jamie, Katy and Jenny all knew each other from high school. Jamie and Jenny kept in touch throughout the years, so once Jenny was licensed and working at Mockingbird Heights A Salon Jamie booked her first appointment. Jamie is a beloved client not only for her personality, but for her desire to try new looks with her hair, makeup and skin care regimen. She is the client that Jenny and I can call on to try all our new hair or makeup techniques. Jenny has skillfully colored Jamie’s hair, cut it into short hairstyles, applied gorgeous hair extensions and applied Jamie’s makeup. Jenny also referred Jamie to me for eyelash extensions.
My husband, Bryce introduced me to Jamie a few years before I started working at Mockingbird Heights. In spring 2015, Jamie booked an appointment with me for eyelash extensions. We started as acquaintances and became fast friends. I have enjoyed applying different styles of eyelash extensions, applying makeup for special occasions and nourishing her skin with facials. Jamie can literally sit like a statue for hours as Jenny and I perform any number of services. It seriously amazes me because I am the worst client ever when it comes to being still. Applying makeup to Jamie is always a fun experience because she allows me creative license and can patiently wait for the application to be perfected.
Jamie and Katy arrived at the salon at 6 am on the July morning of Katy’s wedding. Katy was ready for her makeup and we immediately created a look that would fit her vision for the day. Katy is a ballerina so she is not shy when it comes to stage makeup and makeup in general. However, for her wedding she chose to go with a more natural look. I applied warm tones of creamy gold and soft browns to her eyes. This made her blue eyes pop without overwhelming them. She chose a neutral lip and a soft bronze for her cheeks. Jenny pulled Katy’s hair off of her face and styled it into an elegant low updo. The entire look was completed with a rhinestone bridal headband. Katy looked stunning!
Jamie chose some beautiful plums and browns in cooler tones for her makeup. I did a smokey eye, paired with a plum cheek and deep pinkish plum lip. Jenny styled Jamie’s hair with a middle part, then loosely styled half up and half down with curls. Both women are beautiful and looked gorgeous as we finished their styling.
Jamie and Katy left the salon while it was still quite early. They had most of the day to finish preparing for the wedding and celebrating with the other attendants. Katy and Dustin said their vows at a beautiful backyard ceremony where friends and family gathered to celebrate their love.
